Anti-Modern Slavery Statement

JMK Group UK continues to be steadfast in ensuring that everyone who works through us is treated fairly and with dignity. We do not tolerate slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, or human trafficking in any form, whether within our own organisation or in the supply chains we are part of. This statement highlights the steps we have taken to identify, prevent and, wherever possible, eradicate the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking connected with our business.

We engage a large number of workers who are placed nationwide and operate across many different industries, supplying our services to end clients and recruitment businesses. We do so under two engagement models: the majority of the workers we pay are employed by us under PAYE as umbrella employees, and a further population is engaged as genuinely self-employed subcontractors under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), predominantly in construction. We recognise that these two groups do not carry the same level of risk, and this statement applies to both.

It is of significant importance to us that our partners in the supply chain – the recruitment agencies and end clients we work with – share our zero-tolerance approach to slavery and trafficking. We carry out due diligence on the parties who introduce and deploy labour to us, and we have robust processes in place designed to ensure that none of the workers we engage are being used or controlled for slavery or trafficking purposes.

Our staff understand the importance of preventing this abuse and know how to report any concern they may have. Our due diligence includes Right to Work and identity checks at the point of registration for every worker we engage. We carry out these checks for both our umbrella employees and our self-employed CIS subcontractors, confirming in each case that we hold the correct information for the individual and that they are legally entitled to work in the UK.

Every umbrella employee is offered a proper contract of employment, which includes the right to earn at least the National Minimum/Living Wage for all hours worked, together with further protections such as holiday pay, and statutory payments for sickness and maternity. Workers engaged as self-employed subcontractors under CIS fall outside those employment protections. We recognise that this is precisely why the self-employed model calls for closer scrutiny, and it is the area of greatest inherent risk identified in our modern slavery risk assessment. For that population we apply additional safeguards, including an assessment of genuine self-employment and control, a self-employed pay floor, verification of the bank account to which payments are made, transparent payment statements, and monitoring for the indicators of third-party control and wage retention.

We take a risk-based approach, rather than assuming that modern slavery could never touch our business. We recognise that our sector – and in particular the engagement of lower-paid workers and self-employed operatives in construction – carries a heightened risk that cannot be eliminated by good intentions alone. Our controls are therefore designed to detect and act on the warning signs of exploitation, and we keep them under active review through our documented modern slavery risk assessment.

This statement has been approved by the Board of JMK Group UK on 1 September 2026 and is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 for the financial year ending 30 June 2026. It is reviewed and updated annually.
