IR35 Rule Changes

On Thursday morning the Treasury published the results of their review into IR35 rule changes. This report firmly puts to bed any speculations that the changes will be delayed, and also proposes some changes to the draft legislation which are intended to improve the implementation of the rules. New Immigration System

Last week the Government confirmed the points-based immigration system which will be implemented at the end of the transition period. I’ve read many criticisms of the new proposed system, but one interesting take was given by the Guardian. They believe that this system will increase the number of undocumented workers, thus making immigration even hard to control and putting people’s lives at risk from illegal work. Read more here:

HMRC

Finally, it would have been difficult to miss the below story this week. Daytime television presenter Eamonn Holmes this week lost his appeal in a case bought against him by HMRC. The reason the appeal failed was three-fold, but many have argued that his case mirrored the earlier case of Lorraine Kelly in which she was successful. Make up your own mind here:
